STUDY UPDATE AND NEW RESULTS!

As of December of 2021, we have completed all of our planned 2-year follow up data collection. We want to say thanks so much to all our participants who have continued to share their information with us over these past years!

We have been hard at work turning data into research results. We now have our first academic papers published in top pediatrics medical journals! “Transgender youth referred to clinics for gender-affirming medical care in Canada” was published in Pediatrics. “Do clinical data from transgender adolescents support the phenomenon of ‘rapid onset gender dysphoria’”? was published in Journal of Pediatrics. We have more academic papers in the works, and will be publishing our papers open-access so that they are widely available. We will continue to link to them on our website.

Check out our infographic collection as well. We have infographics on: School Experiences, Parental Support, Who are the People Served by Canadian Trans Youth Clinics, Immigrant Families, Parental Experiences, Pathways to Care, Self-Care and Coping, Gender Distress & Gender Positivity, and Youth on the Autism Spectrum. More infographics will be coming in 2022, so keep an eye on our website!

We held clinic-community events (on video) at each of the 10 study clinics between August 2020 and May 2021, where we presented new results to our participants and the community and answered questions about the study and the clinics. You can find the slide sets from these webinars on our site.

In 2021, we also presented study results at the Canadian Conference on Medical Education (CCME) and the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) Conference. At CCME, we focused on education for primary care providers and pediatricians. At CPA we gave five presentations on: gender development, school experiences, parental support, external stressors on the family, and development and validation of survey measures for gender distress and gender positivity. Conference slides and posters are also available on our site.

Finally, because of the complication of the COVID pandemic during follow-up data collection, we needed to collect some additional information from participants on how they experienced the pandemic. This information will help us to better understand some of the follow-up data from this research. We anticipate wrapping up this last extra bit of data collection in early 2022.

Keep an eye on our results page and please download and share our results!

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to or followed the work of this project, and best wishes to everyone for a happy and healthy 2022!
